Young karting talent Sebastian Tander, son of renowned Supercars star, Garth Tander will be the latest addition to The Grove Junior Team from 2023.
The 9-year-old will be competing in the SP Tool Australian Kart Championship next year, as well as other marquee karting events, as he continues to forge his journey in motorsport.
Garth Tander’s recent appointment as Co-Driver for Penrite Racing and mentor to Grove Junior graduate, Matt Payne will also see him support the existing junior drivers including Queensland State Champion in KA3 Junior Karting, Mika LeMasurier and FIA World Championship karter, Oscar Targett who is running a Grove backed car in the Porsche Sprint Challenge in 2023.
Grove Racing Team Owner, Stephen Grove said: “Sebastian has been incredibly fast this year and had been on our radar for a while. With Matt graduating into Supercars, we wanted another junior driver to join the program and Sebastian’s age and experience fit our requirements.”
Team Principal, Penrite Racing, David Cauchi said: “We are delighted to have Sebastian join our stable of talented junior drivers next year.”
“We are looking forward to integrating him within the team and with his speed and proven ability, we have no doubt he can achieve great things.”
Garth Tander said: “Obviously as a father it’s a great honour, and pride, that the Grove Junior Team have identified Sebastian’s early skills in Karting and offered him a spot in the Junior Team.”
“People will obviously say that he got his spot in the Junior Team because of me, but, hand on heart, Cauchi told me they were signing Sebastian, regardless of whether I signed for Grove Racing or not. So in reality, Sebastian was signed up before I was!
“But this is a great opportunity for Sebastian to learn from Oscar and Mika who are already part of the Grove Junior Team, and are great karters in their own right, and start to be exposed to Grove Racing and see how a large race team works.”
