Oscar Targett claims maiden Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia title.

Grove Junior driver Oscar Targett has claimed the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Championship, wrapping up the title in dominant fashion at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Oscar Targett, in his second year within the Grove Racing banner, becomes the second-youngest driver in Australian Porsche competitions to claim a one-make title. Targett also becomes the first Grove Racing Porsche Champion since Stephen Grove in the Pro-Am class of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

The young Queenslander was utterly dominant in season 2024, claiming 11 race wins, and five round wins on his way to a championship battle that was decided prior to the final race of the campaign.

Oscar’s maiden campaign in season 2023 was delayed due to an astonishing open-heart surgery, which meant that he would miss the opening round. Despite this, Oscar showed incredible resolve to win two races, and end the season in third.

Entering 2024 as the title favourite, Oscar cemented this status by claiming victory in the opening race at Phillip Island.

Oscar entered the final round of this season in clear control of the series, and in complete control of his own destiny. He alleviated any doubts early by claiming Pole Position for the weekend, and earning himself an additional championship point.

Despite finishing second on-road in the wet and dour opening race, a penalty to Clay Osborne meant that Oscar would claim victory in Race One, and take a 98-point lead into the final day of the season, with 120 points on offer across the two races.

Oscar would salute in the morning’s 45-minute endurance race, adding the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy to his collection of trophies in 2024. The coveted endurance title was collated from race results achieved in the singular extended race of each race weekend. Oscar entered the race 12 points in arrears of this title, however his dominant display in Race Two allowed him to overtake teammate Brock Gilchrist to clean sweep the honours on offer.

By virtue of victory in Race Two, Oscar had accrued enough points to claim the series title with a race to spare.

Saturday afternoon’s Race Three was a procession of celebration with Oscar keeping out of trouble and coming home in third. That result was enough to claim his fifth round victory of the year, in what was a truly dominant second half of the season.

Grove Racing are incredibly proud of Oscar and his achievements, and are committed to continuing Oscar’s growth in the world of Motorsport.
