Grove Racing junior driver Oscar Targett is looking to extend his Championship lead following a clinical round win in Townsville. Round Four of the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia roars into Queensland Raceway, with a plethora of categories making up the EVENTelec Race Queensland; Round 5 of the Shannons Speed Series.
Targett arrives at Queensland Raceway fresh off a dominant display at last month’s NTI Townsville 500. Oscar won the first two races; wins three and four of Season 2024, before finishing the final race of the weekend in second. Oscar’s consistency across the weekend resulted in a first overall round win of the season, extending his Championship margin to 26 points.
Oscar has a strong history at the Ipswich event, finishing on the podium twice, on his way to a third place round result in the 2023 event.
‘It’s great to come here to Queensland Raceway (QR) leading the championship, but ultimately, our main focus is on extending that lead across this weekend.’ Oscar said.
‘It’s a really unique track here at QR. It looks simple but that could not be further from the truth. Making sure the car stops well, and looking after the tyres will be imperative for us this weekend. Who knew a six-corner track could be so difficult!’
The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia will feature on two of the three days of track action, with Friday and Saturday racing on the cards.
Oscar’s weekend kicks off with a 45-minute practice session on Friday morning, before a half-hour qualifying session sets the Race One grid. Race One will be the last session on the Friday card, kicking off at 5pm and being run for 25-minutes.
Saturday’s schedule contains the final two races of the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia weekend, the second of which, goes towards the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy.
A 25-minute Race 2 goes green at 11:05am, with lights out for the longer, 45-minute Race 3 going live at 2:45pm.
Fans can catch all the action on the Seven Network and 7Plus.
