Payne bounced back in the second qualifying of the weekend coming in P4. Payne secured his second win of the Dunlop Super2 Series in the final race after an incident involving multiple cars on lap 7. He also earned the title of Rookie of the Round.
MATTHEW PAYNE SAID "It was an incredible race. We got a good start off the line and got into second pretty early on and then obviously Fiore out the front was really quick so I was trying to tag in behind him and pull away from the others behind us. Then the safety car came out, which I was like, this isn't going to be very good, but we got a half decent restart and on the second lap there was a whole bunch of mud on the track and I pretty much just hung on to it. Everyone else behind looked like it was carnage. Really happy to take the win and even though we crossed the line second it's still good for the championship."
Matthew Payne is now third in the Dunlop Super2 championship, 150 points behind Declan Fraser.
Payne will return to the Super2 Series for the next round on the 06 - 09 OCT 2022 for the Repco Bathurst 1000.
