MIKA LEMASURIER is currently competing in the Australian Kart Championship and recently headed to Perth for the second round at Tiger Kart Club, WA.
Mika has made a strong start to the season and currently sits 4th in the National Championships, just 9 points off second place.
"I have never been to this track before, but this is my second time to Western Australia. I had 8 practice sessions to learn the lines and braking points over two days, I was looking good over both days and my times during practice put me in position 6 for qualifying."
"Qualifying was close, I managed to qualify for P8 out of 42 drivers. This position put me in P5 and P6 for my first 2 heat races. I placed P3 and P4 in these two races which was pleasing. These results put me in P2 for my third heat race, where I finished 3rd again.
“The outside line on this track is very difficult for the first two corners as you cannot get across to cover the inside. I started 3rd for my last heat race, this race unfortunately resulted in a DNF, myself and another kart tangled while I was passing them in a flat-out corner and I unfortunately was squeezed onto a kerb in which I bounced off and went over his front tires which fired both of us into the fence. After all of the grid points were added up, I started from 7th.
"In the final, I had a great start, I was able to move up into 3rd by the 4th corner and finished the race in 2nd position. I wasn't quite fast enough for the win, but still stoked to come home in 2nd place against Australia's best."
Mika's next race is in Newcastle on the 2nd-4th June.
RESULTS:
Heat 1 - 3rd
Heat 2 - 4th
Heat 3 - 3rd
Heat 4 - DNF
